Title: Maybe, Maybe Not?

Artist: Erick Lester Brown

Description:
Maybe, Maybe Not? is a provocative and intricate sculpture, created for a private collector as a unique commissioned work. Standing at 5 feet high, the piece is made of melted, flowing orange wax that drips down in organic forms, evoking the fluidity of time, wealth, and uncertainty. At the heart of the sculpture lies an egg-like structure, encasing one ounce of a precious metal and a single bitcoin satoshi (the smallest unit of bitcoin), symbolizing the tension between traditional and modern forms of value. The wax appears to melt around the egg, capturing a sense of impermanence and ambiguity; suggesting that both value and time are in constant flux. This innovative piece draws the viewer into a contemplative meditation on the fragility of material wealth in a rapidly changing digital age.

Medium: Melted orange wax, 1 ounce of precious metal (gold), and 1 bitcoin satoshi encased in a central egg-like structure.

Dimensions: 5 feet high (152 cm)

Dating of the Object: Commissioned Work to be completed in a time of commission.

Authorship:
The sculpture comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist, Erick Lester Brown, specifying its unique commission for the collector.

Markings:
There will be no visible markings on the exterior, but the inside of the central egg will have a discreet engraving of Brown’s initials, along with the date and the encoded hash of the bitcoin transaction verifying the satoshi.

Condition of the Artwork:
As this is a uncreated as-of-yet commissioned piece, the sculpture will be in pristine condition. The wax is designed to hold its form indefinitely, though it will naturally soften and harden depending on the environment, adding to the piece’s theme of change and uncertainty.

Provenance:
This is a one-of-a-kind commission made specifically for a private collector date TBD. Upon completion, the ownership of the artwork will be transferred to the collector, with no previous public exhibitions.

Edition:
This is a singular, unique work. No editions or reproductions will be made.

Historical/Cultural Relevance:
Maybe, Maybe Not? is a cutting-edge commentary on the evolving nature of value and wealth in the 21st century. By incorporating both a traditional precious metal and a digital asset (bitcoin satoshi), the sculpture will reflects the growing discourse on cryptocurrency, the future of money, and the clash between material and digital realms. Created at a time of significant technological and economic transition, the piece engages with the themes of uncertainty, risk, and the ephemeral nature of wealth. The  use of melting wax emphasizes impermanence, further drawing parallels to the instability of markets and values in today’s digital economy.

Exhibition History:
Not applicable, as this piece is a private commission and has not been created as-of-yet

Publication History:
The piece has not been published yet but is expected to be featured in specialized art and digital culture journals upon completion and transfer to the collector.

Rarity:
As a unique commission specifically created for a private collector, Maybe, Maybe Not? is a one-of-a-kind piece that will never be duplicated or mass-produced, making it extremely rare and valuable.

Style and Trends:
The work falls within the contemporary trend of combining digital and traditional mediums to explore the convergence of physical and virtual realities. Brown’s use of melted wax is reminiscent of the organic, fluid forms found in modern sculpture, while the incorporation of cryptocurrency marks a new frontier in the exploration of value and wealth. The piece also engages with minimalist, conceptual art movements, where the medium and subject matter serve as symbols for deeper social and economic commentary.
